Penguin Fun!

What We are Learning…

Thematic Big Book/Shared Reading: This week we are studying penguins.  We will read non-fiction stories, compare animal habitats and chart our learning.
Phonics:  We will work on handwriting, letter sounds and using letters and sounds to spell and read words.  This week we will focus on the letters Yy, Qq and Zz.
Sight Words: be, good
Writing: This week we will continue exploring nonfiction writing.  Students will write fact sentences to create "All About" posters.
Math: This week we will continue to compare and order numbers and quantities.
Science: This week we will study polar animals.  We will focus on penguins.  We will explore how blubber helps to keep penguins warm.

Snacks-  We are slightly low on snacks.  The kids love fruit snacks.  I also have a small fridge in my room if you want to bring something like cheese sticks, carrot sticks or sliced apples.  Popcorn is also usually a big hit with the kids.  Please just remember we are a peanut and tree nut free classroom.  Thanks!

Lexia-
Lexia is a great way for your child to practice literacy skills at home! I would love to see your child spend at least 15 minutes working on Lexia each evening. If you have not started using Lexia at home, you will need your child's student ID and my email- jmelnyk@interact.ccsd.net.

Spirit Days

Friday, December 20th is Decade Day- Dress like it's the 60's!

Water Bottles - Please remember to send your child with a water bottle each day.
